The Kasseler Blende is a conceptual interpretation of traditional pit lights, which were used in underground mining from the 17th century onwards. The lamp is taken out of the mining context and transferred into contemporary living situations – a former workplace light becomes an ambient light. The illuminant in its classical sense vanishes. What remains is an illuminated chamber playing with translucency and opacity.
